Valgamaa Folk Arts and Crafts Central Association is looking for candidates for the Heritage Keeper's Hoop

For the nineteenth year, the Central Association for Folk Arts and Crafts of Valga County (VRKK) has been recognising the bearers and promoters of Valga County's folk culture and cultural workers with the Heritage Keeper's Silver Pin.

Heritage knot is an annual prize in Valga County, which is awarded in six categories, for the appreciation of material, folk and cultural arts:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding activities in preserving and developing Estonian national craft or music or dance traditions and for outstanding activities in promoting cultural work;
  • for the continuous development of the field of folk music, or for an outstanding annual event in the field, or for work of a very high creative or technical standard;       
  • for the continuous development of the field of folk dance, or for an outstanding annual event in the field, or for very good creative results;
  • the Craftsman's Award for continuous development in the field, or for work of a very high creative or technical standard, or for an outstanding annual event;
  • a prize for cultural work in recognition of continuous development in the field, or an outstanding annual event, or a very good performance in promoting cultural work;
  • The Promising Young Folk Artist Award is given to a person aged 35 or under who has made outstanding contributions to the further development and preservation of folk art and/or folk crafts.

You must live or work in Valga County!

Proposals for the Heritage Keeper Award can be submitted by individuals, municipalities, all institutions involved in folk culture, members of the VRKK and cooperation partners. The decision is taken by the Board of the VRKK. The Board reserves the right not to award some of the prizes or to award more than one prize in a category.

The Heritage Keeper's donations are handed over 13 May 2026 in Otepää Cultural Centre at a thank you event.
