The Valga Municipal Council calls for proposals of candidates whose achievements and merits have been outstanding and who deserve the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Valga.
The title of Honorary Citizen shall be awarded to a person who has made a significant contribution to the development of Valga town. Proposals may be made by the permanent committees of the rural municipality council, factions, the rural municipality government, as well as legal and natural persons. The application must include the candidate's first and last name, date of birth, place of residence and contact details, occupation or profession, and the justification for applying for the title.
The decision to grant the title of Honorary Citizen is made by the Valga Rural Municipality Council. This year, the title of Honorary Citizen will be awarded for the 22nd time. The title comes with the city's ceremonial medal, a monetary prize, and the honorary citizen will be entered into the Valga City's book of honour. The title of Honorary Citizen will be presented at the concert held as part of the celebrations for the 442nd anniversary of the city of Valga, which will take place on 11 June at Valga St. John's Church. The title and the ceremonial medal will be presented by the Chairman of the Rural Municipality Council and the Mayor.
