On Friday, 28 November, the first session of the third session of the Valga Municipal Council was held, officially opening the new council's work period. The central item on the agenda was the election of the council's governing bodies: Mati Kikkas was elected as the council's chairman and Andres Illaku was entrusted with the post of vice-chairman.
There were two nominations for the chairmanship - Mati Kikkas and Lauri Drubinš. As a result of a secret ballot, Mati Kikkas received the support of 15 councillors, while Lauri Drubinš was supported by 10 councillors. The elected chairman thanked the councillors for their confidence.
In the election of the vice-chairman, the council decided to entrust the post to Andres Illaku with 14 votes in favour.
At the end of the session, the mayor of the municipality, Monika Rogenbaum, presented the council with a letter of resignation from the municipality, which is the normal legal step after a new council takes office.
The first meeting of the Council was attended by all registered members, which shows an active start to the working period.
The next session of the Valga Municipal Council will focus on the election of the mayor and the appointment of the new municipality government, after which the full work of the new governance period can begin.
