Valga swimming pool reconstruction contract awarded

On 29 December 2025, the Mayor of Valga Municipality, Mart Kase, and Kamo Ehitus OÜ board member Margus Must signed a contract for the reconstruction of the Valga swimming pool. The total value of the contract is nearly €1.7 million.

The reconstruction works will be carried out in the framework of the project „Modernisation of sports services in Valga municipality using the example of the Valga swimming pool“, supported by the European Regional Development Fund. The total amount of the project is approximately €1.2 million, which covers all the activities related to the implementation of the project - in addition to the construction works, the development of services, the implementation of digital solutions and the preparation and implementation of the project content.

The renovation of the Valga swimming pool is part of a longer and continuous development process. The construction project for the swimming pool was completed in 2022, when it became clear that the previously planned aquatic centre project did not include the reconstruction of the swimming pool and the existing pool was completely obsolete. The most extensive and technically challenging phase, the reconstruction of the pool and its technology, was carried out in 2023. Thereafter, the municipality focused on finding funding for the next phases and the comprehensive development of services.

The contract now awarded will see the reconstruction of the entire swimming pool complex and the creation of a logical programme of spaces that meet modern requirements. New changing rooms, saunas and a children's pool will be built. Particular attention will be paid to accessibility - the pool will be fully accessible for people with special needs. To this end, special hygiene and changing facilities will be provided, and a pool lift and platform lift will be installed to ensure access between different levels.

The renovation will create the conditions for the development of new services, including swimming for young children, water gymnastics, aqua aerobics and other water-related activities. The project will design and pilot four new public service packages, the impact of which will be evaluated at the end of the project, both in terms of the involvement of target groups and in terms of the improvement of the quality of life of residents.

In addition to the physical environment, the organisation of the pool services and the user experience will be modernised. Digital solutions will be implemented, including an online booking and sales environment, digital gates, information screens and visual communication solutions, to make the services more convenient to use and to engage a wider audience.

The Valgamaa Sports Federation and the Valgamaa Chamber of People with Disabilities contribute to the project with their expertise. The management of the renewed swimming pool will be transferred from Valga Basic School to Valga Sport, a body administered by the municipality, which will bring the provision, booking and marketing of the municipality's sports services under a single management.
