On 1 October, International Music Day, the renovated building of the Valga Music School was opened with a festive concert.
The project „Modernisation of the Valga Music School“ reconstructed a heritage-listed building in a conservation area to provide better quality public services in the cohesive urban space of Valga. The project was carried out in cooperation with the Valga Cultural Centre and the EELK Valga Peetri-Luke congregation, a long-standing neighbour of the music school, which has been organising joint cultural events for decades. The municipality of Valka was involved in the project, as children from the other side of the border also attend the music school.
Almost a year of construction work has improved accessibility and the building now has a lift. Thanks to a modern ventilation system, the indoor climate has improved, the room programme has changed slightly and the school has soundproofed music classes. New facilities for public services were also created. The courtyard area also received a facelift, with a new outdoor stage and landscaping.
As part of the project, the municipality also carried out a procurement procedure for the purchase of sound, video and lighting equipment. The winning bidder was OÜ Müügiekspert. The state-of-the-art equipment is in place and is waiting to be set up and put into use to improve the learning process and provide a better quality of music events.
At the reopening of the Valga Music School, the Mayor of Valga Monika Rogenbaum and the Chairman of the Valga Municipal Council Lauri Drubinš presented the school with good wishes and gifts on behalf of Valga Municipality.
Monika Rogenbaum donated to the music school a painting by Valga artist Henn Soopalu, „I sing the sad autumn brighter“ (2021), which depicts the bus stop of our music school against the background of autumn colours. „The painting can be given a symbolic meaning, as the music school, with its new facilities, encourages the people of Valga municipality to make more musical stops at the music school or in its beautiful courtyard,“ said the mayor.
Project budget:
- Total cost: EUR 1 515 316
 - Grant: €1 053 271
 - Valga municipality's own contribution: EUR 462 044

Builder: OÜ Semuehitus

The Valga Municipality wishes the music school wonderful moments and many years in the newly renovated building!
