On 26 November, the Alumni Association of Valga Gymnasium will organise a seminar „Valga White House in the Wind“ to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Valga White House. At the seminar, the D. Ozolinsh Scholarship, which aims to stimulate students' interest in the study of local history.
The seminar in Valga State Gymnasium will feature a presentation by architectural historian Mart Siilivask from Valga J. Valga. Georg Hellat, a famous architect from Valga, who designed the school building at 10 Kuperjanov Street in Valga and who turned 155 this year. K. Härk, the chairman of the alumni association, will talk about the history of the school building, the so-called Valga White House.
The seminar will be held in D. Ozolinsh Scholarship. The initiator and supporter of the scholarship is journalist Sander Silm, an alumni of Valga Gymnasium, who wishes to support the students' interest in local history. Dainis Ozolinš (1948-1995) was a long-time history teacher at Valga I Secondary School and Valga Gymnasium who inspired many of his students to study the history of their home town. D. D. Ozolinš's research works are very much related to the history of the city of Valga. He was also one of the founders of the Valga Heritage Society in 1988.
The NGO Valga Gümnaasiumi Alumni Association was established in 2017 to bring together Valga Gümnaasiumi alumni, to carry on and promote the traditions and spirit of the gymnasium.
The seminar is supported by Valga Gymnasium, Valga Municipality and the Valga Museum Friends Association.
