In Valga Municipality it is possible to apply for the issue of a certificate of a family event, apply for data and documents on family events, register family events abroad, apply for a personal identity code, check and correct data in the population register and apply for the issue of data from the population register.
Issuing a certificate of family events
Proof of civil status in the civil register or an extract issued on the basis of these data. The person's own query can be used to check beforehand which data and documents have already been entered in the register. The certificate of civil status service allows you to order a certificate printed on paper, signed and stamped by an official. You can order your own birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce certificate, as well as your child's or spouse's death certificate or child's birth certificate. In the case of registration of birth and death and confirmation of marriage and divorce, the initial certificate is issued free of charge at the applicant's request.
If a person wishes to obtain an extract after the event has been registered in order to certify his/her civil status, a duplicate certificate will be issued to him/her for a fee by the local authority or Estonian consular office abroad.
Applying for a certificate through Valga municipality government
In order to obtain a certificate of a family event, you must submit an application to Valga Municipality. The application can be submitted electronically, sent by post or you can come to Valga Municipality. Please bring a valid identity document with you when submitting the application at the municipal administration.

Registering a foreign civil status document
A civil status document issued by a foreign state must be submitted to Valga municipality for registration. The document to be submitted must be legalised or certified by apostille, if necessary. Bring the foreign document to be entered in the population register and the identity document.

- issue of a multilingual standard form and a duplicate certificate of a family event to be attached - 40 euros;
- the issue to a person of population register data concerning him or her, minor children, wards and deceased spouse. - 20 euros;
- the issue of current residence details to the person concerned for him/herself, his/her minor children and any dependent persons - in the local authority of the place of residence. free of charge, in a county centre municipality 20 euros;
- the issue of the details of the persons who have registered their place of residence in the premises belonging to the owner of the premises - in the local authority of the place where the premises are located. free of charge, in a county centre municipality 20 euros;
- issue of civil status data in cases of legitimate interest - 20 euros for the processing of an application for data on one person.
The fee must have been paid to the reference number of the issuing authority before the application is sent.

Provision of data from the population register in cases of legitimate interest
In the case of a legitimate interest, natural or legal persons may, on the basis of a reasoned request, obtain information on the data of another person recorded in the population register, provided that the person has not imposed a restriction on access to his or her data.
