University of the Arts webcast “The formation of Orthodoxy in Estonia”


Valga branch libraries invite you to participate in the webcast of the Valga Distinguished University on 26 November at 13.30, where Priit Rohtmets, Associate Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Tartu, will take a look at Orthodox history in Estonia.
Orthodoxy has played and continues to play an important role in Estonia, both in cultural life and in social debates. The lecture will provide a comprehensive overview of how Orthodoxy has been established in Estonia throughout history, how church structures have developed and the development of Orthodox congregations. Priit Rohtmets, who has focused his research on 19th-20th century church history and church-state relations, will also help to understand the role of Orthodoxy in today's geopolitical context.
Priit Rohtmets is a renowned ecclesiastical scholar whose main research interests include Estonian and Baltic church history, church-state relations and Orthodox history. His expert insights and opinions have helped the Estonian public to better understand the complex subject of Orthodoxy.
