Comedy "Dinner with a Fool" - Valga Cultural Centre
When brilliant intellect meets brilliant stupidity, the real show begins!
"Dinner with fools" is a brilliant comedy where laughter and irony go hand in hand, and seemingly light subject matter hides deep thoughts.
The performance is in Russian.
Every week, a group of arrogant intellectuals have dinner with... fools. Each brings along what they think is their most ridiculous guest for a good laugh. But this time, not everything goes to plan.
The protagonist, Brochard, a self-confident publisher, finds the "ideal" candidate: a simple-minded tax inspector with a mad passion for building models from scratch. But this "fool" turns out to be far from simple. Instead of becoming a laughing stock, Pignon starts ruining Brochard's life. An evening of absurd coincidences turns into a disaster, and the complacent intellectual becomes a victim of his own plan.
Veber's play, full of sharp dialogue and satire, laughs at snobbery and shows that real stupidity is arrogance.
For more than thirty years, this play has been successfully performed in the world's leading theatres. It always sells out and audiences come back to see it again and again, finding in it vivid emotion, subtle humour and inimitable charm. The show is deservedly loved by audiences, and every time after the last scene the auditorium explodes with long applause. It is truly one of the brightest and most successful comedies in modern theatre.
