PPA and local government met with the Valga community

On Thursday, April 9th, a community meeting was held at the Valga Community Centre, organised by the Police and Border Guard Board and the Valga Municipal Government, which was attended by approximately 50 local residents.

The meeting took place in connection with a tragic incident that occurred in the city last week, which has affected many and raised concerns and questions within the community. The purpose of the meeting was to offer people an opportunity to share their thoughts in a safe environment, ask questions, and receive clarification on what happened and the next steps.

South Prefect Vaiko Vaher first gave the latest update on the murder that took place on Saturday night, confirming that the suspects had been apprehended and the threat to the community had passed. Following this, Valga regional group leader Kairi Ruus and Valga Mayor Mart Kase discussed restoring people's sense of security.

The discussions covered several topics, including the presence of police patrols in Valga, proposals for enhancing security, and the community's role in creating a safe living environment.

The district elder Kairi Ruus stated that the community understandably has high expectations for safety, so it is very important to listen to their suggestions and involve them in the work when looking for solutions. „This is the basis of a trusting relationship. The more we notice, the better we can react and prevent problems at the outset,“ said Ruus. „Clarity of roles is also important here. Each party must know what role the police, local government, educational institutions, and the residents themselves have in creating safety and how to improve the situation together.“

„Valga rural municipality works daily to ensure our people feel safe. Such meetings are important for listening to the community, understanding their concerns, and finding solutions together that help restore a sense of security,“ said Valga rural municipality mayor Mart Kase.
