The conditions for applying for services and benefits and the amounts of benefits have been harmonised throughout the municipality following the 2017 administrative reform. The benefits are divided into three categories according to the conditions of eligibility: non-income-dependent benefits, supplementary social benefits and national subsistence benefits.
For non-income-related benefits are those to which every resident of the municipality is entitled, irrespective of their income. There are four such benefits in Valga municipality: maternity allowance , ranit support , school allowance for families with three or more children and funeral allowance
Additional social benefits can be applied for by a resident of Valga municipality in case of material deprivation, and the income of all cohabiting family members is taken into account when determining the amount of the allowance.id. To qualify for this benefit, the income of the first or only member of the family must be less than €350 and the income of each subsequent member of the family must be less than €150 averaged over the last three months.

In the case of material deprivation, the decision to grant additional social assistance is taken by the municipal social work officer within 10 working days. The maximum amounts of the allowance are as follows:
- up to EUR 100 per family per year to cover the cost of buying firewood or felling firewood;
- reimbursement of up to €25 per month for a child's extracurricular activities;
- reimbursement of up to €50 per month for nursery fees;
- up to €50 per month to reimburse your child's public transport costs to and from school and leisure activities;
- medical and care costs (transport to the institution, prescription medicines, fees for visits and bed days, medical services, nursing care equipment) up to €50 per quarter;
- reimbursement of the hire and purchase of equipment (including glasses) for people with disabilities, up to €100 per year;
- reimbursement of fees for identity documents up to €30;
- emergency support in the event of an accident or unexpected expenditure (natural disaster, fire, theft, etc.).

An application for a childcare allowance can be submitted once a calendar year by 25 August and the allowance is usually granted for nine months (from 1 September to 31 May) and is deducted by the childcare provider from the child's monthly childcare allowance.

Income support is based on the net income of all the members of the family or the person living alone in the previous month, the housing costs due for the current month and the subsistence threshold. from 1 June 2022 is the subsistence threshold for a person living alone or in a family.
