Project summary: Improving the energy efficiency of the Valga station building of cultural heritage value through investments to achieve energy savings and reduce maintenance costs in the building as a whole, including the introduction of a solar station and the reconstruction of lighting and insulation of the marble floor of the hall of heritage value.

The aim and outcome of the project: The aim of this project is to carry out the following works in the cultural heritage Valga station building through an investment: improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing the energy supplied to the building, adapting the indoor climate of the building and introducing renewable energy:

  • reconstruction of the roof and insulation of the attic;
  • the construction of a solar power plant and the installation of panels (20 kW) on the south roof of the building;
  • reconstruction of the heating node and heating system;
  • the floor of the hall will be insulated, underfloor heating will be installed under the artificial marble stone tiles, the roof will be restored;
  • reconstruction of the electrical system and installation of LED light sources.

The project will include a design that takes into account the works foreseen in the energy audit as well as unforeseen works (automation, demolition, decommissioning, special solutions for heritage conservation).

The activities of the project have been approved by the National Heritage Board. The actions will improve the energy efficiency of the building, as measured by the energy performance index ETA. The investment is necessary to achieve the change in carbon dioxide, energy consumption and maintenance costs foreseen in the measure.

Project budget:

  • The total eligible cost of the project is €400 000.
  • The grant for a project is 100% of the eligible project costs, up to a maximum of EUR 400 000.
  • Own contribution: €136 000. The need for additional own contribution will be determined following the procurement procedure.

The energy efficiency of the building is supported by the Estonian state.

The project is run by staff in Valga municipality:
