The remuneration of the committees of the municipal council and the municipal administration was approved.

At the 3rd session of the 3rd session of the Valga Municipal Council, the chairmen and vice-chairmen of the standing committees of the council were elected and the composition of the committees was approved.

The council also decided to elect a second vice-chair. Alar Nääme, a councillor standing for the Estonian Centre Party, and Tanel Valk, a councillor standing for the Estonian Conservative Party (EKRE), were nominated as candidates for vice-chair. Mr Nääme gained the confidence of 13 councillors and was elected. Valk received 10 votes in favour. One ballot paper was spoiled. 

The third item on the agenda was the determination of the salaries of the mayor and deputy mayors. The Mayor's salary was set at EUR 4 100 and that of the deputy mayors at EUR 3 200. It was decided to continue to pay the members of the municipality an allowance of EUR 500 per month.

Andres Illak, the deputy chairman of the council, explained at the council meeting that the established wage rates are still lower than in other municipalities in South-East Estonia. 

In addition, the session also included the second reading and approval of the 2025 supplementary budget of Valga municipality. The supplementary budget has an operating revenue of EUR 687 264, an operating expenditure of EUR 527 667 and a result of EUR 159 597, an investment revenue of EUR 57 322 and an investment expenditure of EUR 216 919.

The last item on the agenda was the establishment of the procedure for the payment of compensation and remuneration for participation in the work of the municipal council. The President of the Municipal Council will receive a monthly allowance of EUR 2 100 and a reimbursement for the use of a private car of EUR 0,30 per kilometre of the estimated distance travelled, up to a maximum of EUR 550 per month. The deputy councillor shall receive a monthly allowance of EUR 500. 

Fees for attendance at council meetings for the month(s) of council meeting(s) or committee meeting(s) were set as follows:

  • Chairman of a political group in the Council EUR 300
  • Committee chairman EUR 300
  • Councillor EUR 200
  • Member of a committee who is not a member of the municipal council EUR 80

For several positions, councillors are paid a lump sum at the highest possible rate.
