The aim of the Youth Council is to protect and represent young people's interests, to have a say in matters concerning the organisation of youth work in the city, to encourage young people's civic initiative and to involve young people in decision-making processes concerning the organisation of city life. In its work, the Youth Council is guided by the laws of the Republic of Estonia, the legislation of the Council and the Valga Municipality Government, and the statutes of the Valga Youth Council. The activities of the Youth Council are based on the principles of democracy, members' own initiative and joint activities.
The aim of the Youth Council is to discuss issues concerning young people and to make proposals to the Valga Municipal Council (hereinafter the Municipal Council) and the Valga Municipal Government (hereinafter the Municipal Government), based on the needs and interests of young people.
Who can apply?
A young person who is aged 14-21 at the time of the elections and whose place of residence according to the Population Register is Valga municipality or who is studying in a general education school or vocational training institution in Valga municipality according to the Estonian Education Information System can stand as a candidate for the Youth Council.
Who gets to choose?
The right to elect a youth council is granted to a young person who is between 14 and 21 years of age at the time of the election and whose place of residence is Valga municipality according to the Population Register or who is studying at a general education school or vocational training institution in Valga municipality according to the Estonian Education Information System.
