Developing communities

There are several NGOs and societies in different areas of Valga municipality. In order to ensure that these NGOs are viable and able to engage in community development, Valga Municipality supports them financially. Support can be applied for in the form of project and operating grants. You can also apply for grants to cover the cost of larger projects.

A community committee has been set up by order of the municipality:

Chair of the committee: the Deputy Mayor for Education, Culture, Community and Youth, Maarja Mägi;

vice-chair: community and cooperation projects specialist Marika Muru; 

Members:

  • Hille Tamman, representative of the Taheva region;
  • Kristel Pruks, representative of the Õru region;
  • Kristel Orula, representative of the Tõlliste region; 
  • Ene Kaas, representative of the Karula region;
  • Valga city representative Aet Arula-Piir;
  • Julia Belova, appointed by Valga Municipal Council;
  • Varvara Sljusartšuk, appointed by the Valga Municipality Youth Council.

The Commission's tasks are to promote and coordinate the village and settlement movement and cooperation between communities, to identify the problems of villages and settlements and propose solutions, to identify opportunities for the development of villages and settlements and participate in the relevant development processes, to develop the basis for the election and organisation of village mayors, to develop regions, cantons, settlements and villages according to their specific characteristics, to cooperate on an ongoing basis with non-profit organisations and community leaders active in the public interest.

The Commission evaluates applications for community development projects and reviews applications for operating grants from non-profit community development organisations.
