A new application period, during which apartment associations can apply for funding for the purchase of portable or fixed generators, will open in the last week of April. The budget for the application period is €780,000.
According to Sälli Hinrikus, head of the crisis awareness department at the Rescue Board, recent application rounds show that there is great interest in increasing the crisis resilience of apartment buildings. “Apartment associations acted very quickly in both the previous funding round for generator purchases and the funding round for adaptation into shelters opened this February. Our goal is to continue supporting associations so that they are better prepared for the unexpected.“
However, Hinrikus emphasised that along with the equipment and construction work, the residents of the apartment building must also receive training. “The resident must know what and who does what in a crisis situation – how to get to the basement, how the generator starts up, etc. This information must not remain known only to one or two people.”
A similar call for applications for apartment associations is being held for the second year. Last year, the budget was 1.3 million, and 196 apartment associations benefited. In February, a call for applications to adapt shelters for apartment associations was also opened, for which there was great interest and the budget was depleted within two months.
Tea Tassa, a service coordinator at the Centre for Organising Public Procurement, explained that apartment associations can apply for support to acquire portable or fixed generators. „In addition, it is possible to receive support for the construction of emergency power supplies for connecting generators to apartment buildings“ electrical installations, and for related construction, reconstruction, and design work," added Tassa.
The support is aimed at residential buildings with at least three apartment ownerships that are in daily use and where at least 80% of the apartment ownerships are owned by natural persons. Housing associations need to ensure in advance that they have an electricity audit that meets the requirements, which is one of the conditions for granting support. The maximum support amount per applicant is EUR 10,000. The total volume of the application round is EUR 780,000.
The application round opens on Monday, 27th April at 9 am.
